Thursday Night

I'm on a frickin Frasier marathon. This is what my life has come down to. Actually, I forgot how funny this show is. Anyway, I'm finally getting into the swing of this deployment. No, it's not getting easier its just getting...well I'm dealing. Going to bed alone sucks and then again...I love having the whole bed to myself...not every night though.

Oh how sad...on an even sadder note, Peyton starts 6th grade (middle school) on the 15th. I just can't believe he's in middle school. We went this past Monday and toured the school. Peyton, Xander and I found every classroom (a couple of times). We figured out a system for remembering his locker combination. It was funny standing in front of my son's locker and trying to remember just how to make the darn thing work...it's been a couple years. I remembered. It's so strange to start this phase of his life. I think of all the things that could go wrong and how he's my little boy and all the what if's. Then I just read this devotional the other night talking about not worrying about things cause God's got it all under control. Well, there you go. I realize it's another year in school and kids enter middle school almost everyday...it's normal, but it's not my baby that has to start it for the first time! He'll be fine and so will I. We talked about it and without letting him know, I'm more nervous for him than he is. That's probably a good thing.

It seems Xander enters a new phase in life weekly. I forgot how quickly they change when they are this little. One minute he can only lay on his belly, the next he's rolling over. I'll put him in his little chair thing and he would just sit in it, now he's curious in all the little toys around him. He's actually playing with them. He's grabbing toys with purpose rather than accidentally grabbing ahold. I think right now I love hearing him discover his voice the most. It's funny to watch him make a new sound and surprise himself with that sound. We are so lucky...this kiddo smiles ALL the time. You just have to look at him and he smiles. Strangers will walk up to him and he makes their hearts melt by smiling at them. Such a happy, chill child.

I can't wait for David to come home and to experience all of this with me. Speaking of me...I've been studying my butt off for the past two and a half months for my RN boards. I'm scared to even talk about it, but I have put more effort into studying this time than in the past. I have to say I feel a bit more confident...not so much that I won't continue to study until that testing date arrives but...definitely feel different. I really want to start working again. I have sooo enjoyed this time with my boys, but for me personally, I wanna work. I want a career. I feel like my life has been on hold for too long. Homemakers are amazing women and I envy how they make it all work in their households, I am not one of them. I'm amazing in other areas :-) Haha!

Well, that's it...that's all I got. David, if you read this...I love you with all my heart. I miss you more than words can even begin to express. You take care of yourself and know that I cannot wait until you're in my arms in December.

Small town parade

My kiddos and I packed ourselves up and went to a 4th of July parade on Saturday. What a neat experience. The town of Northville is very small and Main street really is "Main" street. American flags flying along every light post. Total small town Americana! We went into the Five and Dime, which nothing in there was five or ten cents, but I was a treat! We bought sunblock, a towel to sit on during the parade and Peyton got caps for his cap gun!

There is a place in this town that David loves and introduced me to the first time we came to New York, it's called "The Red Barn". Antiques, junk and homemade crafts galore! There is so much to see inside this little red barn and I found a few trinkets for a decent price! I must say even after 15 years of being away from Europe I still sometimes scoff at the price of antiques here in the U.S., but for the most part this place was decently priced.

After exploring the stores we explored the local gas station...Stewart's. Gosh gas stations here are just soo different from the ones in Colorado. First of all, Stewart's has ice cream...I have yet to try it. Second, the gas stations all over are stocked to the brim almost like a grocery store and bagels with butter or cream cheese pre-packaged. Their YUMMY! We gathered a few items to munch on for the parade and some water and headed out to find a seats.

Their was a lovely shaded spot that wasn't "saved" for others and we plopped right down. We ate our hot dogs and chips and chit chatted. It was real nice. Xander was pleasant as usual...just looking around and taking it all in. A lady came up to Peyton with a popsicle...she gave it to him for free. She says she passes them to all the well behaved, patient children waiting for the parade to start. Just a side note...of course we have patient, well behaved children...their ours...our little angels.  Hee Hee yea right...anyways it was a nice treat in the hot summer sun. It was really neat to see how the street lined up with people of all ages. It reminded me of the Monument parade we have in Colorado. People from all surrounding towns come to see the parade. I seriously think it only lasted thirty to forty-five minutes but it was absolutely exciting to watching. Peyton made out like a bandit with candy (some of the older folks helped him find hidden pieces) and Xander was just amazed at it all. Not sure his little head could look back and forth quick enough.

We came home afterwards to such a treat...homemade hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill with potato and macaroni salad. To top it all off pomegranate lemonade. To say the least I ate till I almost burst and then relaxed the rest of the evening. What a day full of memories. I love having moments like this. I just wish my husband was here to take it all in with us. It just means that next year when he comes home we have to go out and make more family memories.

God is good people. We are blessed.

Just Random Thoughts

Peyton and I are sitting on the back porch...he's drawing with his new art set and paper. I love yet again to see his imagination at work. I'm sitting here just farting around on the computer and thought...let's blog!

I just found out my poor hubby has shingles...really? This poor man...it's just one thing after another. For those of you who don't know...shingles are another form of chicken pox...the virus lies dormant in us if we've had them before and stress and a few other things can bring it on. I guess being in Afghanistan would bring on a bit of stress. :-( It's painful and itchy. I can't even imagine wearing all the gear they have to and then add sweat to this stuff and OMG! It's easily taken care of with antibiotics and some pain meds but really, it's honestly the last thing he should have to deal with. My heart goes out to you darlin.

I didn't study today...needed to mentally decompress. I'll hit it hard tomorrow. Spent time with Peyton and Xander and I got to take my Aunt-in-law to the beauty parlor. She feels like a new woman. Don't we all with a good hair cut? I need one and think I'll get one when I get back to Colorado. Speaking of hair...I went red for a bit and within a month changed back to blonde. I get so bored with the same color but when I change from the blonde I just don't "feel right".

Speaking of not feeling right...deployment sucks. My whole world is out of whack! I'm finally getting used to the hubby being gone (don't get me wrong, it's hard but I'm dealing), but then again I keep thinking this is just temporary and he'll come home soon. Yes, a year is temporary compared to a lifetime, but in a year so many things can change. Tis the life huh?! Just a typical military wife going through the day to day emotions.

Anyways, that's all I've got for now. Hope your lives are as blessed as mine.

Gloversville, NY

I'm sitting here on the humid back porch in Gloversville, New York. For those of you who haven't been here before, it's a quaint little town with not too much to do. This is a good thing for someone like me who is looking for some peace and quiet and a lot of study time. I'm studying for my RN boards (third times a charm)! Some days I feel really smart and others I'm wondering what the heck I'm doing trying to get into this field.

Gloversville is home to David's great aunt, Dr. Joan Christie and her companion and confidant, Christine Kennedy, RN. I couldn't be in a better place to study the medical profession with a doctor and nurse in the household. Their level of knowledge amazes me and I only hope to be as smart as them one day.

Peyton and Xander are in this lovely, quaint victorian home with me. Peyton finally has a yard and an amazing garden to play in. This interprets into fighting ferocious enemies, getting lost and finding his way out of the jungle or hunting in the wilderness with the Indian nations. I love watching his imagination at work. There's a swimming pool here as well, unfortunately it's all ready to get some action but the weather is not coorperating. I guess fighing the deadly seas will have to wait for another day...there's shark's in there you know! Correction...we had a few moments of splendor before the weather didn't cooperate...he fought the great fight!

Xander on the other hand is experiencing a different type of adventure. He has found his feet! He is becoming so much more in tune with his surroundings. It's a whole new world out there and I find myself getting excited for him as he figures out new and different things. I seriously think this kid is teething, he's just about got his whole fist in his mouth and drool is everywhere. He doesn't like the taste of Orajel, but he sure does like the affects!
